ONTARIO, Calif. -May 17, 2017 -- Mexican airline Volaris late Tuesday (May 16) began nonstop flights between Ontario International Airport (ONT) and León (BJX), the most populous city in the central Mexico state of Guanajuato.

Volaris (Airline Code Y4) Flight 834 departed BJX at 9:10 p.m. and arrived at ONT at 10:41 p.m. This flight is regularly scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Y4 Flight 835 departed ONT at 12:35 a.m. today (May 17) to arrive at BJX at 5:45 a.m. This flight is regularly scheduled on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Flights are operated with 144-seat Airbus A319 aircraft, departing from ONT Terminal 2 and arriving at ONT's International Terminal.

Flights are available for booking at volaris.com, as well as through travel agents and other reservation systems.

"The inauguration of routes like the new Bajío-Ontario route not only strengthens the presence and position of Volaris as the main Mexican airline serving the U.S. market, but it also brings important advantages for a large number of customers on both sides of the border," said Holger Blankenstein, Chief Commercial Officer of Volaris.

Alan D. Wapner, President of the Ontario International Airport Authority, recognized the León flight as the first, new, nonstop international route added since ownership of the airport was transferred to the Authority by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).

"The decision by Volaris to add León flights is further evidence of the strong, Southern California market served by ONT. León has now become ONT's 16th nonstop destination.  As we continue to work closely with our airline partners, it is our hope to continue sustained growth for our airport, one flight at a time," Wapner said.

Wapner noted that this summer those airline partners will also offer 8 percent more ONT passenger seats than last summer.  Other recently added or announced service at ONT includes nonstop flights to Dallas Love Field by Southwest Airlines and Chicago O'Hare International by American Airlines.
